Mommy Makeover Surgery
The effects of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding on your body can be as life changing as your little bundle of joy. Oftentimes, diet and exercise aren’t enough to get back your pre-baby body. That’s why so many women turn to mommy makeover surgery.
What Is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is a combination of surgical procedures typically performed in one session. Most women focus on the tummy and the breasts. Some opt to address other areas as well.
Procedures that may be performed as part of a mommy makeover include:
- Tummy tuck to remove excess belly fat and skin and tighten abdominal muscles
- Breast lift to counter sagging that can occur after breastfeeding
- Breast augmentation (implants) to replace lost breast volume
- Breast augmentation and lift to give breasts a perkier, more youthful shape
- Liposuction to remove fat from the waist, buttocks, thighs or other area
- Sculptra Butt Lift for a fuller, rounder and more lifted backside
- Vaginal rejuvenation to improve the skin tone and appearance of the labia and vulva and tighten a vagina stretched by childbirth
Mommy Makeover Preparation
Many surgeons recommend waiting until you’ve had your last child to undergo a mommy makeover. In addition, it’s best to wait at least six months after giving birth to have a mommy makeover. If you breastfed your baby, wait at least six months after weaning before having breast surgery. By giving your uterus and breasts ample time to return to their new normal, you will have a clearer picture of which procedures you want to include in your surgery and the extent of the changes you want to make.
Achieving or maintaining a stable, healthy weight and getting plenty of exercise will prepare your body for surgery and give you a head start on getting the results you want. If you smoke, you’ll need to kick the habit well before surgery.
When you’re ready, schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and expectations and learn about your surgical options.
Mommy Makeover Recovery
A mommy makeover typically is an outpatient procedure, although an overnight stay may be recommended so you can be observed for the first 24 hours. After you go home, you will need to block out up to two weeks to recover from tenderness, bruising and swelling.
Plan to get help with chores and children. Your surgeon will advise you on how much weight you can lift following the surgery; you’ll likely need to limit your activities for at least four to six weeks, and you may not be able to pick up your child during this time. If your doctor prescribes a narcotic medication for pain, do not drive until you stop using it.
Mommy Makeover Results
A mommy makeover can reshape your body, boost your self-confidence and improve how your clothes fit. That said, it’s important to have realistic expectations. Full recovery can take several months. You may not look like your 18-year-old self again, but you will look more like your pre-pregnancy self — and perhaps better.
You can maintain the results of your mommy makeover by eating a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight, getting regular exercise and taking good care of your overall health.
If you’re ready for a new and improved you, our plastic surgeons can help you look and feel like your pre-baby self again. During your consultation, Dr. Juan Giachino, Jr. or Dr. Christopher Cromwell will take the time to discuss your goals or reasons for surgery with you to determine which procedure is appropriate for your specific situation.
