Ted Schiff, MD
Ted Schiff, MD Founder and Chief Medical Officer
Double board-certified in dermatology and dermatopathology, Dr. Ted Schiff specializes in the treatment of skin cancer. He is one of the few surgeons in our region who is fellowship trained to perform Mohs surgery, an innovative technique that offers individuals with skin cancer the best outcome with the least amount of tissue loss. Dr. Schiff is dedicated to treating skin problems of all kinds, including rashes, psoriasis, eczema, warts, moles, cysts, acne and aging skin, as well other skin conditions. As a dermatological surgeon, Dr. Schiff is highly experienced in treating spider and varicose veins. He performs laser procedures that remove unsightly birthmarks and age spots, as well as visible signs of aging skin, such as damage from the sun.
Dr. Schiff grew up on Long Island, New York, and attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He earned a medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, graduating with honors. After his residency in dermatology at New York University Hospital, Dr. Schiff practiced medicine at Bellevue Medical Center and the New York VA Hospital.
“My second board certification in dermatopathology enables me to examine skin biopsies microscopically without having to routinely send them to someone else for analysis. That individual can read the slide but hasn’t seen the patient. It’s important to me that I read the slides myself, because it allows me to render the most accurate diagnosis, overseeing all aspects of my patient’s care.” — Dr. Ted Schiff
Dr. Schiff began his medical career on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, where he was the only dermatologist on the island for 18 months. Pursuing his goal of developing the highest skills possible for treating patients, Dr. Schiff left Hawaii to develop a second medical specialization at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he completed a year-long fellowship at the Institute for Dermatopathology. There, he studied under the most widely recognized dermatopathologist in the world: Dr. Bernard Ackerman. This advanced training enables Dr. Schiff to diagnose medical problems on a far more sophisticated level than the average dermatologist.
To advance his knowledge even further, Dr. Schiff completed a one-year fellowship in dermatologic surgery and laser surgery at the prestigious Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin.
“That was a special year for me because I learned to perform Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancer treatment. I have a strong commitment to helping individuals who suffer from this potentially deadly disease. Mohs is the best available treatment for giving people with skin cancer the highest possible success rate with the least amount of damage to skin tissue.” – Dr. Ted Schiff
After completing his year in Marshfield, Dr. Schiff traveled for several months, practicing general dermatology in Micronesia and Saipan, which gave him the opportunity to experience two cultures very different from his own. His last stop before settling in South Florida was Loveland, Colorado. This final year of intensive training gave him the privilege of working with Dr. Patrick Lillis, one of the originators of tumescent liposuction, a technique for removing unwanted fat from areas of the body and face. It remains a state-of-the-art technique.
When Dr. Schiff is not busy taking care of his patients, you will find him fishing.
